Your furnace runs constantly from the start of fall throughout part of the spring season. This is a long time to be running an appliance, and you more than likely don't pay too much attention to this appliance until it breaks down. Once broken down, you have to wait in your cold home until help can arrive to save the day and get your furnace working properly again. To prevent a breakdown throughout the season, you should be performing maintenance on the unit, and need to pay attention to issues that it may be experiencing to get ahead of a breakdown. If you end up with a breakdown, there may be some things you can try to get your furnace working properly again. Read on for some helpful tips.

Reset The Power

All of that running your system has been doing can be hard on your furnace. Sometimes a rest and a reset are necessary in order for it to recharge and start anew. Turn the power off to the unit and allow it to rest for a few minutes before you turn it back on again. Once on, listen for any issues and be sure that it is cycling as it should. You should hear it running through and turning on. If you hear issues throughout this cycle, you can report it to the HVAC technician. If it stays running, you may have at least temporarily fixed the problem.

Change The Thermostat Temperature

Try to adjust the thermostat temperature in your home. It may be set too low that it feels cool in your home. Adjust the temperature to a higher temperature and see if that turns on the furnace. You may also have an issue with humidity in your home. If you have low humidity, it is always going to feel cool in your home. You can invest in a humidifier to help with the temperature in your home as well. If the thermostat didn't turn on the furnace, or if it just doesn't feel warm enough, you can change your thermostat and see if it was providing an improper reading. Older thermostats aren't as efficient or accurate, invest in a digital thermostat instead.

If you have issues with your furnace, there may be a few things you can do to get it working as it should. If you have tried the above-mentioned tasks and still have no luck with your furnace working as it should, you should call a professional HVAC contractor for help.
