If you are having HVAC installation services coming to your home to have a new HVAC unit installed, you may think that there is nothing for you to do but what for the installers to arrive. However, there are things that you should consider doing prior to the installation of your new HVAC unit. Here are the steps you can take before an HVAC installer arrives.

Create a Clear Pathway to Your HVAC System

Prior to an HVAC installer arriving, one of the best things that you can do is to create a clear pathway to your current HVAC system. Your new unit will most likely be installed where your old one is positioned. You want to ensure that the technician can bring the bulky new unit into the space where your old unit is without encountering any problems, such as locked gates or debris they may trip over.

Trim Back Your Landscaping

Most HVAC systems are positioned outside. If your unit is outside, you will want to take the time to trim back your landscaping that is near the unit. This includes trimming back the trees and the shrubs around the unit. Your unit should have at least two feet of clear space along each side of the unit, and at least five feet of clear space above the unit. If your landscaping is closer to this, remove it or trim it back prior to your new unit being installed.

Clean the Vents in Your Home

Before a new HVAC unit is installed, consider cleaning the vents in your home. If it has been a few years since you last had professional ductwork cleaning done, call in a professional to clean your ductwork. If you have recently had the ductwork cleaned, take a soft damp cloth and wipe away dirt from the vents or registers in your home.

Consider Updating Your Thermostat

Lastly, consider updating or upgrading your thermostat at the same time you upgrade your HVAC unit. A newer, smart thermostat can help with energy efficiency and can help to ensure your home is kept at the temperature you desire. If your thermostat is old and dated, now is a good time to make the change over to a newer model.

If your current HVAC unit continuously encounters problems, is not able to efficiently heat or cool your home, or has stopped working, it may be time to have a new unit installed. Contact an HVAC installation service today to have your unit inspected. They can then help you determine if repairing your unit is the best course of action, or whether you should have an entirely new unit installed.
