Laundry is a pet-peeve of most parents. No matter how often you search out, sort, wash, dry, fold and put clothes away, it seems that there is always a pile of dirty laundry waiting for you the very next day. Since you cannot eliminate this task from your life, you must find ways to make it less tedious, uncomfortable, unorganized and annoying. Here, you will find some tips to help you set up your laundry area to be an efficient, easy-to-use space that helps you get the job done quickly.

Socks

Socks cause a lot of problems when it comes to laundry. Finding, sorting, washing, re-sorting, matching and putting those socks away can take a lot of time out of your day. Instead of wasting so much of your time working on socks, give each of your family members a mesh bag to put their socks in when they take them off. When it comes time to wash them, draw the mesh bag closed, send it through the wash and dry cycles, and send the socks back to everyone's rooms with the socks inside. This will eliminate the big basket of socks that need matched, divided and put away.

Missing mates is another problem that you may never get away from. Hang a twine line on the wall in your laundry room with a few clothes pins on it. When you find a sock that doesn't have a mate, hang that sock on the line and eventually, the mate will appear and you will have a matched pair of socks again.

Dry Erase Marker for Taking Notes

With a busy schedule, it can be hard to remember what you put in each load. To avoid drying clothes that should be line-dried, use a dry erase marker to jot down what items are in that load that shouldn't be tossed in the dryer. Write it directly on your machine and you, or your helper, will know what shouldn't be put in the dryer easily.

Hang Laundry Bags

To help keep things up off of the floor in an organized manner, install a few coat hooks in your laundry area and find cloth laundry bags. Each bag can be used for each type of laundry. When the bag is full, you just dump it in your machine and use the appropriate settings for that load.

Overhead Organization

You probably have a lot of clothes that need to be hung as soon as they come out of the dryer. Go to your local flea market and find an old wooden ladder. Paint it to match your décor and hang it from your ceiling in your laundry room. You can quickly hang the clothes on each rung to sort them into the closets that they need to be put away in.
